Dr. Curran has an extensive background in the field of electric propulsion. He started working in the field at NASA's Lewis Research Center in 1983 and played major roles in the development and transition to application of arcjets (over 100 on orbit), ion engines (NSTAR on Deep Space 1), the first Hall-effect thruster to fly on a U.S. satellite, and the pulsed plasma thruster that was tested recently on the Earth Observer 1 satellite. Dr. Curran is now an Assistant VP for the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) here in Huntsville.
